And Other Random Tidbits

A Few Other Books Where My Art and Writing Can Be Found

George Fox and the Valiant Sixty, by Elfrida Vipont.
I was commissioned to do the illustrations for the 1997 North American edition of this classic.  I carved a series of British wildflowers for each of the chapter headings.  Unfortunately, it's now out of print again, I think.

Sex as a Heap of Malfunctioning Rubble:
The Best of the Journal of Irreproducible Results, edited by Marc Abrahams.
My article "Patterns of Limb Retention in Hellenic Statuary" appears under the pen name Pandareus von Grundenstein.  (I borrowed the name from my stuffed Panda for the occasion.)
A second article, "In Search of the Wild Ape-Leprechauns of Borneo," was published in the May 2012 issue of The Journal of Irreproducible Results.  (The article is also posted here.)

This Day: Diaries from American Women, compiled and edited by Joni B. Cole, Rebecca Joffrey, and B.K. Rakhra.
An excerpt from my "day diary" appears under the title "Times Two," where I describe a small but oft-repeated moment of life with twin babies.

Approved!, by Nancy L. Haines.
I illustrated this children's book about the unique Quaker process of conducting business.  I used a collage technique.

Periodic Table of Alien Species, by Miguel O. Mitchell
I illustrated 14 out of the 86 alien species in this funny little book, which features poems about real chemical elements and imaginary space aliens associated with them.

I have also done cover art for a few books including:
        Jackie's Boy, by Steven Popkes
And web site art for Pandemonium Books & Games (the icons for the 6 categories)

And in the "close but no cigar" category...
"Campus Confidential," a made-for-TV movie shown on ABC Family channel.
A number of my pieces were purchased by the set designers to decorate the main character's house.  Unfortunately, the main character has just moved in and whenever the interior is shown on screen the house isn't decorated yet.  I watched the entire movie on fast-forward (I couldn't actually bring myself to watch it at normal speed) and as far as I could tell there's never a glimpse of any of my work visible.  Still, I was sufficiently amused by the idea that I had to include it here!
